End of Season Letter
Dear Players and Bulldog Families,As the season ends I want to take a minute and thank you all for your passion and dedication to the world of hockey and our organization. Your time and commitment meant a lot this past year as we worked through some twists and turns. I want to thank all the fantastic hockey players and families for competing so intensely and for representing both the Warkworth Community and the WMHA in such an honourable way.
We should all feel very proud of these young children and celebrate both the great times and embrace them in times of challenge. We have over 90 children playing hockey in the WMHA and every one of them is extremely talented and special. The abilities of these children and their respectful conduct both on and off the ice bodes well for the future of our Town.
A big thank you needs to go out to the referees, Seamus who ran Skills & Drills, the arena management team, every bench staff member and to my fellow executives. Without everyone's help this season wouldn’t have been what it was. I would like to thank all of our sponsors. Who generously and selflessly gave to Warkworth Minor Hockey Association. WMHA would like to specifically thank Allen Insurance Group who sponsored our Skills & Drills program, Carey Durrant who donated money to our organization and to Brighton Tire who paid for Hockey School and equipment.
The awards banquet will be held on Wednesday May 18th at 5:30PM. Players and bench staff will receive a burger or hotdog, bag of chips and a pop/water. There will be extras available to purchase. Early registration will be available at the awards banquet. If you sign up and pay your fees in full by July 18th you will receive a 10% discount.
Every year, half of our executive positions come up for re-election. I encourage you to consider putting your name forward for one of these roles. Without volunteers, we would cease to function. Literally! We especially need volunteers with younger players, as some of us are getting a little long in the tooth. This, as well as running the timebooth, would be a good way for high schoolers needing volunteer hours.
Our AGM will be held on Thursday May 26th at 7PM at the Warkworth Legion. There will be an info session held to talk about the duties of each position. The time and date for that will be coming soon. If you are interested in any of these roles, please contact me directly at [email protected]
As always we rely heavily on fundraising and volunteers. If you have any ideas for fundraising events please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of the executive members to share them. Any help at any of our fundraising events would be greatly appreciated.
This year WMHA has been asked by the Warkworth Service Club to help with volunteers for the Donnybrook. The Warkworth Service Club has been incredibly generous to our organization for years and years. There are many different roles needing to be filled over the weekend of the Donnybrook. Any amount of time you are able to give would help. There will be a sign up sheet with days, times and roles at the awards banquet. Many hands make light work. Please consider giving back to The Service Club,a club that has given selflessly to your player’s organization.
In closing, Our children are amazing, and we are all very fortunate to be spectators to what they are able to achieve. It's incredible. They all have great ability, a great passion for our game and families who make great sacrifices to be a part of it. I want to thank all of you and your children for being a part of the WMHA.
I’m very proud of what the WMHA has been able to accomplish. We continually look for ways to enhance our value and provide the children with an incredible hockey experience. Throughout the years there have been some challenges and we have done our best as volunteers to look for solutions. For some, these solutions are not enough and my only ask is that people understand that the WMHA is run by volunteers who look to do their very best and work tirelessly for the members of this organization. I have taken very seriously the responsibilities of the role of President and it has been a tremendous honour to serve. Together we have all played a huge part in making the WMHA what it is today and I look forward to seeing what’s to come.
Thank you again to all the volunteers, coaches, players and fans for the incredible experiences this year. Most of all, thank you again for the opportunity to serve as part of this fine organization, Warkworth Minor Hockey.
GO BULLDOGS!!!!
